Oedipus Gallery

Touching on themes of fate, free will, identity, pride, and the search for truth, Oedipus Rex has been a cornerstone of Western drama since it was first introduced in 492 B.C.E. The story revolves around a prophecy of unbearable sadness and a king’s inability to run from what fate has willed of him.

Based on Sophocles’ tragedy, this presentation will capture the imaginations of a modern audience with a poetic adaptation by celebrated American playwright Ellen McLaughlin. The Collin College Theatre Department production is directed by Joanne Zipay, who founded and served as artistic director of New York City’s Judith Shakespeare Company for 20 years, from 1995-2015.

Collin College's production of Oedipus Rex was staged in the Black Box Theatre. It ran from December 4-8, 2024.
