A poignant coming-of-age story set in post-WWII Brooklyn, “Crumbs from the Table of Joy” follows an African American family recently moved from Alabama and untethered after the death of a wife and mother. As the family works through its grief in different ways, they are joined by an aunt who marches to the beat of her own drum and a new wife who unsettles everyone except the father.
“Crumbs from the Table of Joy” is directed by Dennis Raveneau with a script by Lynn Nottage, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winning playwright. Raveneau notes that “we often see death as an ending. In this touching ‘memory play,’ Nottage uses death as a beginning as well. It marks the start of a search to find one’s place, a search that, for many of us, remains elusive.”
"Crumbs from the Table of Joy" ran in the John Anthony Theatre from October 11-15, 2023.
